Should you play Renata Glasc?

Pick Renata if you like winning a field, getting paid for keeping it, and using small units to make the next exchange work in your favor. This token build has more immediate board play than her slow Gold engine might suggest.

Best for: Players who enjoy token boards, resource sequencing, and deciding which units are worth protecting and which should be cashed in.
Think twice if: You want every unit to be a permanent defender or every Gold to be usable immediately without support. Temporary bodies share the board with tokens that normally enter exhausted, so the timing matters.

Lillia turns each move into another Sprite at the location she left, and Industrialist makes that new body ready too. Renata Glasc’s Field Guide

When you or an ally Hold, Chem-Baroness may exhaust to create a Gold exhausted. That is a reward for keeping a battlefield, not for taking it in the first place. A ready Gold can be exhausted and killed for one Power of any domain. Once your score is within three points of victory—five points in a normal eight-point game—it also adds one Energy. That bonus applies to all your Gold while you meet the threshold, including tokens made by other cards or saved from earlier turns.

How Renata Glasc wins

Renata needs a board that can earn the first points without treating every Gold as a reason to stop developing units. A Hold builds resources, those resources help defend or retake a field, and reaching five points makes the remaining Gold better at paying for an expensive closing turn. The chosen Champion changes how that happens. Mastermind offers paid card draw and a point-scoring ability while at a battlefield. Industrialist instead makes new tokens ready, letting the deck use Gold immediately and turn token production into attacks. The featured list takes that second route; it wins through the board rather than a Mastermind activation.

The Gold can pay now, but only after it exists

Industrialist works from base and makes new Gold ready despite the exhausted instruction on its producer. Broker's death can therefore supply Power for your next play, and Poro's conquest can do the same. At five points, each ready Gold supplies an Energy as well. Industrialist does not ready tokens that were already exhausted before she arrived. Nor can you use a Gold that is still waiting to be created to pay a cost that comes first. Keep the Champion alive if the follow-up depends on the new token entering ready.

Lillia leaves the next attacker behind

Move Lillia from base to a battlefield with Industrialist in play and she leaves a ready three-Might Sprite at base. That Sprite can threaten the other field after Lillia's move settles. Bard can also move Lillia and other units to one open battlefield if you pay his additional cost by exhausting your Legend. Open means unoccupied and uncontrolled, not a field you already hold. His effect can move exhausted units, but it does not ready them. If you used the Legend for Gold during Hold, you cannot exhaust it again for Bard that turn without another readying effect.

Temporary bodies do not promise a Hold

Sprite Fountain · Sprite Burst · Dusk Rose Lab

Sprites die at the start of your Beginning Phase, before scoring. Leave a permanent unit when you need the field to Hold. Fountain and Burst already make ready Sprites without Industrialist: Burst makes two, while Fountain makes one at base on play and repeats that effect when the gear dies. A Sprite created by Fountain's death during your Beginning Phase has missed that phase's start and lasts until your next Beginning. That gives you a fresh attacker for the coming Main Phase, not a way to move into a battlefield before the current Hold.

Strengths

Gold can turn a successful Hold or a small unit's trade into resources for the following play, with an extra Energy per token once you reach five points.
Industrialist and Lillia give the featured list ready bodies without needing to draw and pay for a separate unit every time.
Order's kill effects and Mind's combat manipulation let the list attack large units without relying entirely on winning a raw Might comparison.

Weaknesses

The Legend does nothing for a board that cannot keep a battlefield through Hold. Spending too much on future value can leave it with no income.
Removing Industrialist before a new token enters can delay both the next attack and the Gold payment that was meant to support it.
A board of Sprites can look larger than the position you will actually have when it is time to score. Permanent defenders still matter.

Shadow's take

I like this version because the Gold and token cards are working toward the same turn. Broker is not just waiting to die for a resource you cannot use yet, and Lillia is not just leaving a tired Sprite behind. Industrialist makes both useful immediately. You still have to give her something to work with: Poro, Broker, Dredger, and Lillia are the early board, while Fountain and Burst already provide ready bodies when she is not available. The play I would look for is Lillia taking one open field, leaving a ready Sprite at base, then Bard carrying that Sprite and a Poro into the other open field. Poro makes Gold there, and the permanent units remain after the Sprite expires. That asks you to leave the Legend ready for Bard rather than automatically taking its Hold Gold. Hostile Takeover gives the list a different way through a defended field. Borrow the important unit, use the opening, and remember that it returns at the end of the turn. If you can follow with Cull the Weak, you can kill the borrowed unit as your casualty while the opponent loses another of theirs if they still control one. That is a much better use of the theft than assuming a temporary conquest has solved your next Hold.

The Game Plan

Early gameKeep a functional board rather than an expensive Gold payoff with nothing ahead of it. Poro and Broker are two-Energy bodies; Dredger leaves a Bird at base when it dies. Lillia costs three Energy, or four Energy and one Mind Power to enter ready. Fountain costs two Energy and one Mind Power and makes a ready Sprite at base without asking you to have Industrialist first. Use that body for a real point or trade, while planning which permanent unit will remain. Lecturing Yordle draws a card and provides a Tank, but at two Might it needs help to survive a serious fight.
MidgameIndustrialist costs four Energy and one Order Power and can stay at base while her passive does its work. Develop her before the Lillia move or Gold-producing exchange you want to use immediately. Cull is best when you can lose Broker, Dredger, a Sprite, or a stolen unit and the opponent has no cheap casualty. They choose their own unit, so it is not a guaranteed answer to the largest threat in a wide board. Ki Barrier can let Lecturing Yordle absorb much more assigned combat damage, but an opponent can assign enough extra to get through the seven-point prevention. Disciple of Shen has Shield 3 only when exactly one other friendly unit is with it at a battlefield; adding a third unit can remove the defensive bonus you were counting on.
Late gameAt five points, count ready Gold as both Energy and Power when budgeting the closing turn. Watcher costs seven Energy and one Mind Power, or eight and two Mind Power to enter ready, and its play trigger reduces every enemy unit's Might by three for the turn, to a minimum of one. That can open both fields for the bodies already on your board. Hostile Takeover from hand costs five Energy and two Power in any combination of Mind and Order and has normal Main-Phase timing; hiding it on an earlier turn is what gives it the later Reaction play without its base cost. Unchecked Power is the reset when the battlefield board has become unmanageable. It exhausts all your units before dealing twelve to every unit at battlefields, so keep Industrialist at base if you want her to survive and help make the replacement tokens ready. Do not assume the units you saved at base can simply make basic moves afterward while exhausted.

Lab can turn an expiring Sprite into a card before it dies for nothing. Commit Lab's trigger by killing the Sprite as its cost while the Beginning triggers are being placed on the chain, before Temporary resolves. Leave a permanent unit here if you also want the Hold. Broker can produce Gold when sacrificed and Dredger can leave a Bird at base, but the replacement at base does not preserve an otherwise empty Lab. The useful sequence is a sacrifice plus a retained field, not drawing a card at the cost of every future point here.

Going First

Treasure Hoard · Plundering Poro · Renata Glasc, Industrialist

Poro conquering Hoard can make two Gold: its own conquest token and the battlefield's token if you pay one Energy. That Energy is committed before the pending Poro Gold arrives, so you need it available already. Industrialist makes both new tokens ready. The early Poro still needs to survive or leave another unit behind for a Hold; collecting two tokens does not stop an easy retake.

Going Second

Seat of Power · Lillia, Fae Fawn · Bard, Mercurial

Seat draws for each other battlefield you control when you conquer it. Take or retain the other field first when the board allows it; Seat as your only field draws nothing. Lillia and ready tokens help split the pressure. Bard can bring a group here only while it is genuinely open. He cannot reinforce Seat once you control it. A defended Seat needs a different plan, such as combat or Hostile Takeover, rather than Bard's move. Keep a permanent body with the Sprites if the next Hold is the point you need.

Sideboard

Make the combat answer fit the attacker

Decree of Insight · Ki Barrier · Stupefy

The three Insights are for enemy Body units: one Energy gives a legal target -5 Might for the turn and ignores Deflect while paying. Reducing a unit to zero Might does not by itself kill an undamaged unit, but it can remove its combat damage or make existing damage lethal. The extra Ki Barrier is for protecting an important unit from damage, not from kill effects. I would replace Stupefy first when either larger swing answers the actual matchup, then consider the slow Singularity if there are not two good targets for it.

Answer the gear or the specific Chaos unit

Salvage · Decree of Unity · Sprite Fountain

Salvage is an Action that can kill a gear and draws a card. Bring the two copies when an opposing gear is driving the game. It can also kill your own Fountain to make the second ready Sprite now and draw, though that spends the gear instead of saving its death for the next Beginning. The extra Unity kills an enemy Chaos unit or gear during your Main Phase. I would trim Cull when the opponent has expendable units that protect the real target, or the main Unity when its Chaos restriction misses the gear Salvage needs to answer.

Borrow the threat or make them sacrifice it

Hostile Takeover · Cull the Weak · Hidden Blade

The extra Takeover is for large battlefield units that damage spells struggle to remove. The extra Cull is strongest against a narrow board, especially with your own expendable tokens. Together, Takeover followed by Cull can dispose of the borrowed unit permanently while the opponent sacrifices another if they still control one. Hidden Blade can also kill the borrowed battlefield unit; you are its controller at that moment, so you draw the two cards. I would trade Singularity for Takeover when control of the unit matters more than six damage, or trim a Watcher for Cull when the early single threat is deciding the game. Keep enough units to finish after the removal.

Reset a board that has gone too wide

Unchecked Power · Singularity · Renata Glasc, Industrialist

Bring the second Unchecked Power when killing up to two units with Singularity leaves too much behind. Keep Industrialist at base before the reset, where the damage does not reach her; being exhausted does not turn off her passive. Save a token maker or another follow-up instead of emptying the hand into your own wipe. Bard can move exhausted survivors to an open field afterward only if the Legend is still ready and you can pay for him too. It is an available recovery line, not part of Unchecked Power's effect.
