Jhin spends the early turns answering the board, then uses the fourth stored spell to channel the runes for a much bigger turn. The payoff only matters if you have a plan for the points afterward.

Should you play Jhin?

Pick Jhin if you like control decks where the order of your spells changes what the rest of the turn can do. You are managing the board and preparing a resource burst at the same time.

Best for: Players who enjoy planning a turn ahead, choosing between cheap interaction and a qualifying cast, and converting a defended board into an extra-turn finish.
Think twice if: You want a forgiving opening or prefer spending everything as soon as it is available. Jhin's expensive spells leave little room for a turn that neither contests nor advances the plan.

Key Cards

Curtain Call can answer different locations while supplying a qualifying four-Energy spell. Meticulous Killer then gives the deck a four-Might body for one Mind Power after that payment. Virtuoso checks the Energy actually spent on a spell, so the cheap interaction still needs to be chosen for the board rather than treated as automatic progress toward the fourth stored spell.

Jhin’s Field Guide

Virtuoso may banish a spell after it resolves if you spent at least four Energy to play that spell. Once four spells are banished with the Legend, they go to their owners' trashes, you channel four runes, and draw a card. Those runes enter ready, so the fourth spell can fund more plays immediately. You still need runes left in the Rune Deck; if fewer than four remain, you only channel what is available. Keep the stored cards separate from other banished cards. Spending four Energy across several cheap spells is not the same as spending four on one spell, and repeating a spell's effect does not make it several cards for the Legend.

How Jhin wins

Use the first spells to keep the opponent's scoring manageable while building a board that can use the eventual resource burst. Meticulous Killer helps bridge that gap: after you spend four or more Energy on one spell that turn, he can be played for one Mind Power instead of four Energy. That gives you a real unit without consuming more of the Energy needed for interaction. The fourth stored spell should lead to a useful follow-up, whether that is a ready attacker, another removal spell, or enough resources to take an extra turn from an established board. Drawing more cards is worthwhile, but the deck still wins by keeping units at battlefields and turning those cards into points.

Pay for the modes you actually need

Curtain Call · Virtuoso

Curtain Call starts at four Energy for one mode. Its three different Repeat payments let you add more modes, but each chosen mode must be different. Paying all three costs six Energy and two Power of any domain in total. You can combine the two damage at a battlefield with the -4 Might on the same defender, or take a draw while dealing with a unit in base. Do not pay for a mode with no useful target just to make the spell look bigger. It is still one spell for Virtuoso, whether you use one mode or all four.

Choose between the cheap draw and the fourth spell

Consult the Past · Downstage Dramatics · Jhin, Meticulous Killer

Consult from hand spends four Energy, draws two, and can advance the Legend. The same card played from Hidden later usually spends no Energy, so it does not supply that qualifying cast. Downstage Dramatics offers another choice: two Energy for one card, or four Energy with Repeat for two cards and one qualifying spell. If the opponent counters your four-Energy spell, Virtuoso does not trigger. Meticulous Killer's alternate cost still works because you actually spent the Energy on a finalized spell. His Vision then lets you keep or recycle the top card before your next draw.

Preserve rune Energy with Gold

Deadly Flourish · Wages of Pain · Card Sharp

Flourish can leave exhausted Gold when its chosen unit dies that turn, while Wages produces its Gold after dealing the damage. Card Sharp offers each opponent Gold and gives you another for each opponent who accepts. Once ready, Gold exhausts and kills itself for one Power of any domain. Spending that token instead of recycling a rune preserves the rune for future Energy, but a newly exhausted Gold cannot make the current payment. None of these effects channels a rune.

Strengths

The fourth stored spell channels ready runes, letting a defensive play become the start of a much larger turn rather than its end.
Meticulous Killer turns a qualifying spell into an efficient unit deployment. You can answer a threat and still put a fighter on the board.
Flexible damage, Gear removal, and large follow-up units give the deck several ways to turn control into points. An extra turn becomes dangerous once those units are already in position.

Weaknesses

The first cycle needs four resolved qualifying spells. An opponent who scores quickly can force you to use the cheapest available answer instead of developing that cycle.
Several important spells lack Action or Reaction. Having enough resources does not mean you can cast the answer during a Showdown.
Large draws and expensive spells need a board worth supporting. If every unit is gone, another full hand may not stop the opponent taking the final point.

Shadow's take

This is my Jhin pick because the removal can develop a body at the same time it advances Virtuoso. Spend four Energy on Flourish or Curtain Call, then use one Mind Power for Meticulous Killer instead of another four Energy. Yordle provides a card and a Tank before the expensive turns, while Gold from Flourish, Wages, and Card Sharp can help preserve runes for later Energy payments. I like Mel as the way to protect the bigger commitment once there is time to empower her. Her protection does not require Ekko's rune reset, and her extra Might reduction improves the relevant mode of Curtain Call. Still, the fourth spell is only useful if its resources lead somewhere. Keep a permanent unit on the field before committing Time Warp; temporary Sprites cannot carry the next Hold.

The Game Plan

Early gameLook for Lecturing Yordle or Card Sharp with a useful spell to follow. Yordle draws when played and takes combat damage first; Card Sharp can leave Gold, but how much depends on the opponents' choices. After spending at least four Energy to play a spell, reserve one Mind Power for Meticulous Killer. Flourish is a useful setup when its damage handles a relevant unit. The Gold arrives exhausted if that unit dies this turn, so it cannot immediately pay for Jhin.
MidgamePlan the fourth qualifying spell and the follow-up together. Curtain Call offers different effects with its separate Repeat payments, while Comet and Singularity address larger targets. Rocket Barrage handles Gear or a unit in base during your Main Phase; it cannot damage a battlefield unit or answer during a Showdown. Wages and Bellows can still be the correct answers even when their normal payments do not advance Virtuoso. Once Mel is empowered, your spells and abilities cannot be countered, but an opposing unit or another effect can still change the fight.
Late gameWatcher can shrink the enemy board and enter ready if you pay Accelerate, while Forerunner leaves two Mechs at base when it dies. Use those lasting units to preserve the point after removal. Time Warp costs ten Energy and four Mind Power and banishes itself, so it does not join Virtuoso's stored spells. The extra Beginning Phase also kills Temporary Sprites before scoring. Take the extra turn when the surviving board can use it, rather than treating another draw as a plan to recover a lost battlefield.

Pay for the answer, not Deflect

Heisho, Shell of the World

Heisho lets players ignore Deflect while paying for spells and abilities choosing something here. That helps your targeted removal, but helps the opponent target your units too. It does not remove protection that says a unit cannot be chosen.

Increase the small damage

Void Gate · Bellows Breath · Curtain Call

Gate adds one damage to spell and ability hits on units here. Bellows deals two per hit, and Curtain Call's battlefield damage mode deals three. The opposing spells get the same help, so leave a holder that can survive the return exchange.

Plan for the damage before the Hold

Frozen Fortress

Fortress deals one to every unit here at the start of each player's Beginning Phase. A one-Might holder can die before scoring. Count that damage before choosing which unit stays, and use the weakened enemy board when it makes your later removal more efficient.

Brittle Steel

The three Steels add inexpensive Gear removal. Flow lets one be played again from the trash for four Energy and one Fury Power before being banished. Trim a less useful unit answer when an opposing Gear engine matters more than another damage spell.

Change the removal size

Decree of Insight · Bellows Breath · Unchecked Power

Insight is the efficient -5 Might answer to an enemy Body unit. The extra Bellows helps against several small units at one location; Unchecked Power handles a much larger battlefield at the cost of exhausting all your units and hitting your own battlefield bodies too. Choose the actual board you need to answer.

Support the long turn

Mel, Newly Awakened · Thousand-Tailed Watcher

The extra Mel helps when protecting spells is worth the separate three-Energy empowerment. The extra Watcher is a larger threat and a temporary reduction to the opposing board. Add them only when there is time to pay for them, trimming a less useful early answer rather than cutting every card that keeps you alive until then.
